Terms of use
Last updated 15 October 2026.
These are the terms for using Writeboard, run by Writeboard Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 17460235, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ. By creating an account or using a link or sign-in a tutor gave you, you agree to them.
In short
- The free plan is free for as long as you use it, within its limits.
- Paid plans are paid in advance through Paddle, who is the seller on your receipt.
- Cancel at any time from Settings and keep the plan to the end of what you paid for. Any payment is refunded in full if you ask within 14 days.
- Nothing you made is deleted for not paying, and export works on every plan at no charge.
- A tutor is responsible for the students they add and for what goes on their boards, including the right to use the papers they upload.
- There is no uptime guarantee, so keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
- We tell you at least 30 days ahead of a price change, or of a change to these terms that takes something away from you.
This is a summary to help you read them. The sections below are the terms, and where the two seem to differ, the sections below apply.
The service
A shared whiteboard for tuition: boards, pages, homework and the tools to write on them, with a sign-in for each student and view-only links for parents. We aim for the service to be available at all times but do not promise it; we keep continuous backups and will tell you if anything is lost. If Writeboard ever closes, every account gets at least 90 days' notice by email, exports stay available to the last day, and the data is deleted after.
Your account
Keep your password to yourself. A tutor is responsible for the students they add and for what is written on their boards. Do not share a student's sign-in.
What you upload
You must have the right to use what you put on a board. Exam papers and textbook pages belong to their publishers; using them with your own student on a private board is your responsibility, and Writeboard never publishes or shares them beyond the people you give access to. If a rights holder sends a valid notice that something infringes, we remove it within 2 working days and tell you; repeated infringement ends the account. Report a problem at /report.
Acceptable use
No unlawful, abusive or harmful content, no attempts to reach another tutor's or student's boards, no automated scraping. We may suspend an account that breaks this, with an explanation.
Fees
The free plan is free for as long as you use it: two students, three books each and 500MB, and the limits, not a clock, are the boundary. The Tutor plan is £6 a month, or £60 a year which works out at £5 a month, and the Tutor Plus plan, which adds a record on each student and the progress reports drafted from it, is £10 a month or £96 a year which works out at £8 a month. Both are paid in advance by card through Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), our merchant of record: Paddle is the seller on your receipt, takes the payment, charges any VAT or sales tax due where you live, and sends the receipt; we never see your card. Paddle's buyer terms cover the payment itself, between you and Paddle; these terms cover Writeboard. The Tutor and Tutor Plus prices are shown without tax; Paddle adds the VAT or sales tax due where you live, so a tutor in the United Kingdom pays £7.20 on the £6 plan. On your card statement the charge shows as PADDLE.NET* WRITEBOARD. You can cancel at any time from Settings and keep the plan to the end of the period you paid for; after that the account moves to the Free plan: the students within Free's limits keep working, and the rest are kept read-only and exportable until you subscribe again. The Learner plan, for your own notes rather than teaching, is £4 a month or £36 a year which works out at £3 a month. The Learner plan's price includes VAT, so nothing is added at checkout. It gives one shelf, as many books as 5GB holds, with two books and 500MB free before that. A Learner plan has no sharing links: your notebooks are yours alone. Learner accounts are for people 13 or over, and creating one confirms you are. Where a plan says tutors or anything else is not counted or not charged, that is a pricing rule, not a promise of infinite capacity: fair use applies, and if a team's usage suggests something other than running tutoring we will talk to you about it rather than surprise you. Teams are priced by their active students, in bands: £39 a month up to 40 students, £89 up to 120 and £179 up to 300, with tutors and coordinators unlimited on every band; a larger team agrees a price with us directly. Team payments are taken the same way, by card through Paddle, or by a Paddle invoice where agreed. Nothing you made is deleted for not paying. A payment that fails gets a week to be put right before the account moves to the Free plan. If prices change you will be told at least 30 days before your next payment.
Refunds and cancelling
If you are a consumer you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of a payment and be refunded in full; by starting the plan straight away you agree that we provide it during those 14 days. We extend the same 14-day full refund to everyone, consumer or business, on any payment, monthly or yearly: ask from Settings or write to hello@writeboard.uk, or ask Paddle, whose receipt tells you how. After 14 days a payment is not refunded, but cancelling is always free and immediate, and you keep the plan to the end of what you paid for.
Availability
We provide Writeboard with reasonable skill and care, but not with a promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free: maintenance, deployments and faults happen, and when something breaks our job is to fix it promptly and say honestly what happened. There is no uptime guarantee on any plan. Export works on every plan at no charge, so keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose; our backups exist to restore the service, not as your only copy. We may change or withdraw features, with notice where it matters.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit, and nothing in them takes away rights you have as a consumer. Beyond that: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost earnings, lost bookings, lost profits, loss of business or loss of goodwill, however it arises. A lesson rearranged or a session missed because Writeboard was unavailable is a risk we do not accept: keep a way of carrying on without us, and the export and the view-only link keep working without us. For everything else our liability is limited to the fees you paid in the previous 12 months. English law applies.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that takes something away from you or costs you more, we email every account at least 30 days before the change takes effect, so you can cancel and export before then. A change of price follows the notice under Fees. Other changes, such as clearer wording, take effect when we publish them. Every change is listed here with its date.
- 9 October 2026. In short, at the top; Paddle's buyer terms named under Fees; this section and its list.
- 3 October 2026. Fees: the Learner plan's price includes VAT, so nothing is added at checkout; the Tutor and Tutor Plus prices are shown before tax.
- 1 October 2026. Final after a solicitor's review; the draft notice removed.
